"Death came with startling suddenness to one of Perth's well-known residents last Thursday afternoon about 4:30 o'clock, when Mr. Michael McGlade was stricken in the twinkling of an eye. He was sitting on the lounge with one of his grandchildren and when his daughter-in-law came in found him dead. The news was startling to his friends. Heart failure was the cause of death. Micheal McGlade was an Irishman by birth, and was born at Fork Hill, County Armagh, Ireland, in 1829, thus being in his 76th year. When a young man he commenced to work with Bolco Van & Co., the largest manufacturers of steel rails in their day, whose two big works were situated at Whitton Park and Bishop Aukland, both in the north of England. Deceased worked for 21 years with this firm at their mill at Whitton Park. Some of the rails made by the company are to be seen in the local yards yet. Mr. McGlade emigrated to Philadelphia in 1883, and came to Perth the following year. His brother John had been living here for many y | ||
