    Enlisted in British army in 1804 at age 18. 97th Regiment of Foot. Discharged in 1819. Awarded pension on 26 August 1819 (British Army Pensioners Abroad. Source: WO120 Volume 70, p. 166. Index #6420). As a pensioner, he was among very first settlers of South March. Worked as servant to Captain John Benning Monk until receiving (26 May 1828) a patent from the Crown for the South 1/2 of Lot 11 Con 3 March Township, 100 acres. In 1819, he helped Monk build his temporary residence, a shanty that Monk nicknamed "Mosquito Cove" (Monk later built a stone manor which he named Beechmount, which was destroyed by fire in 1870). Wife Mary Ahearn was also a servant in the Monk household. Listed in May 4, 1821 census of March as "Killeen, Darius, wife, 1 son, 1 daughter."
